Regular maintenance prevents breakdowns, ensures safety, and maximizes the lifespan of the battery, motor, and mechanical parts.
1.Battery Care(Most Critical for Longevity)
Avoid Deep Discharge:Do not run the battery completely flat.Recharge when it reaches 20-30%capacity.Deep discharges strain cells and shorten cycle life.
Charge Correctly:Use the original charger.Charge in a dry,room-temperature environment.Do not charge immediately after a hard ride;let the battery cool down for 30 minutes first.
Storage:If storing for winter or long periods, charge to about 50-80%and check voltage every month.Never store a fully discharged battery,as it may become unusable.
Keep Contacts Clean:Ensure battery terminals are clean, dry, and free of corrosion.
2.Brake System Checks
Pad Wear:Check brake pad thickness monthly.Replace before they wear down to metal.
Cable Tension:Mechanical brakes need occasional cable adjustment as cables stretch.Lever should not pull all the way to the handlebar.
Fluid(Hydraulic):Check fluid level annually. If lever feels spongy, bleed the system to remove air.
3.Tire and Wheel Maintenance
Tire Pressure:Check weekly.Under-inflated tires increase rolling resistance(reduces range)and wear out faster.Over-inflated tires give a harsh ride and reduce traction.
Tread Inspection:Look for cuts, embedded glass,or uneven wear.Uneven wear can indicate an alignment or suspension issue.
Spoke Tension:Check spokes for looseness.A loose spoke can cause a wheel to wobble.Tighten as needed or have a shop true the wheel annually.
4.Drivetrain and Bearings
Chain(if equipped):Keep chain lubricated with bike chain oil.Clean off old grime before applying new lube.A dry chain wears out sprockets quickly.
Wheel Bearings:Lift wheels and spin them.Listen for grinding and feel for play.Replace worn bearings immediately to prevent hub damage.
Headset and Pivots:Check handlebar stem for looseness.Keep pivot points lightly greased.
5.Electrical System
Connectors:Inspect all wiring connectors monthly for corrosion, looseness,or broken pins.A poor connection causes intermittent faults and heat damage.
Controller Cooling:Ensure the controller has airflow.Keep it free of mud or cargo blocking its cooling fins.
Lights:Test lights and horn regularly.A failed brake light is a safety hazard.
6.General Cleaning and Storage
Clean Regularly:Dirt and salt accelerate wear.Wash with a damp cloth and mild soap.Avoid high-pressure water jets, which force water into bearings and electrical connectors.
Dry Thoroughly:After washing or riding in rain, dry the trike to prevent rust.
Store Indoors:Protect from rain, snow, and direct sun when not in use.UV light degrades tires and plastic parts.
7.Periodic Professional Inspection
At least once a year, have a qualified technician check:
Brake fluid condition and bleed.
Bearing adjustment(wheels,headset).
Frame integrity for cracks(especially around welds).
Motor mounting bolts and phase wire condition.
